This puzzle follows along en exciting range of Gibsons puzzles that resemble dollhouses that have been opened up for our curiosity. In this instance we are delighted to examine in colourful detail the inside activity you might find at a downtown department store. This is a beautifully vivid image of a major store you might find in London. I only say that because of the distinctive red double decker bus and London black cab which are still iconic methods of transport in London. There's also a red phone box, which, believe it or not, can still be found in small villages throughout the country. They have become so rare and were once so ubiquitous that there is a movement afoot that is trying to preserve them even as functioning devices. Good luck with that one. I recently saw one in Hampstead that had been converted into a mini expresso bar. They have been re-adapted into all sorts of tiny businesses.

Of course, any savvy consumer knows that the first floor was always set aside for perfumes with perhaps the back of the ground floor being for mens clothes. To a north American the ground floor is the first floor. The first floor up would then be the second floor. To a Brit the first floor is their ground level and the first floor up is the second floor but to a Brit that's the first floor.Clear?

This really is a wonderfully dated puzzle: just look at the waiter on the top floor (whichever floor it is), he's wearing spats. Spats were worn by both men and women through the late 19th century and early 20th century. They were supposed to keep mud and rain of your shoes. Then one Chelsea Garden Show in the 1920's saw the King not wearing spats and that was the end of spats. The only spats I recall were in the movies worn by Fred Astaire in Top Hat which were used to highlight his footwork and by Burgess Meredith who, I recall, wore them when he played the Penguin in the Batman tv show.

Every floor has a display of merchandise in fantastic detail that is bound the entertain the most avid puzzle enthusiast.
