A Welcome Delivery - by Terry Harrison

1000 Piece Puzzles - 685mm x 490mm

It's a quiet summer afternoon in an english village. This Gibsons 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle depicts a classic British setting with the puzzle artist, Terry Harrison, once again creating both a nostalgic image of a country village that probably never existed, as such, together with a close eye to its authentic description down to the details on the duck's feathers. The Morris Minor delivery van dates back to the 1950's and was a popular vehicle for small delivery jobs (such as Cadbury's chocolates), tradesmen and proved to be a sturdy general pupose van. The type of van in the jigsaw puzzle may well be seen today travelling on British roads as they proved to be durable as well as reliable vehicles despite such a small engine of only 948cc.

As can be seen in this 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle from Gibsons the village dates back to at least the Tudor period with the distinctive exterior dark wood framed homes and whitewashed walls. Such homes now generally fall under the eye of the various historical agencies in the UK that try to maintain the historical authenticity of such buildings. In the jigsaw puzzle we can see that all the buildings have tile roofs. To change such a tile roof often requires permission. Originally, which the puzzle does not show, many of the tudor homes would have had thatched roofs. Thatchers today are hardy used at all but nevertheless it is is a highly regulated profession with less than ten approved thatchers plying their trade in the United Kingdom. Such is the lack of thatched cottages in Britain.

The 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle also shows a unique method of crossing the stream and that would be to cross through it slowly. Torrential downpours would be extremely rare in this temperate climate.

Terry Harrison was born near Wendover into an RAF family and consequently spent his early years moving from base to base, eventually settling in Farnborough, Hampshire. After attending Farnham Art School, Terry became a graphic artist working in London before joining the Yellow Pages as an illustrator and later Thompson Directories in their Farnborough head office. During his leisure time, Terry pursued his true passion which was landscape painting and by 1984 the demand on his original work was so great that he decided to paint full time and has never looked back! A few years later, Terry began to publish his work as fine art prints and in 1996 was awarded the Best Up and Coming Published Artist of the Year by the Fine Art Trade Guild. The increasing popularity of Terry's work in both their original and printed formats (including cardboard jigsaw puzzles) is reflected in the ever increasing demand for his pictures both at home and abroad. His work can be found in collections around the world in Europe, Japan and the United STêtes.
