Derek Roberts is one of several artists whose work can be found in the Gibsons jigsaw puzzle catalogue. Derek's specialty is in recreating timeless village scenes with earlier model cars, for instance, but with visitors and locals dressed in more contemporary casual clothing. In this rather fanciful village scene, a family of picnic goers sit by the ege of the pretty stream running through the village. What would have been the central gathering point of the village; the church still stands as a beacon of safety during troubling periods as well as a gathering place for quiet prayer. Crammed with visual delights from the past, such as the Morris Minor or Vespa scooter, the buildings appear small by today's standards. On the left of the picture a shop purveys teas and scones and on the other side of the village the local pub is doing a brisk trade. Both river waterfowl and holiday makers enjoy a setting that would delight any puzzler interested in a bygone era.
