Home Farm - by John Finlay 500 Piece Puzzle - 485mm x 345mm Box Dimensions - 250mm x 250mm x 45mm This timeless scene is by a jigsaw puzzle artist new to the Gibsons puzzle catalogue for 2008. His name is John Finaly and he already has three titles in the Gibsons 2008 catalogue. This 500 piece jigsaw puzzle is set on an English farm that looks as though it has stood for centuries. The buildings, towered over by enormous oak trees, are made of stone and the roofs are red tiles. The most modern apperatus are the large milk containers set in the puzzle foreground and were developed in Europe as far back as 1860. Without refrigeration, milk spoils quickly and it would have been more practical to bring the cow to where the milk was needed. The metal containers would at least give the farmer a few hours to deliver his milk. The haywain is pulled by an animal rather than a tractor and the ruts in the lane attest to its frequent use on the farm. There is no sign of any motorised vehicles and the pigs, ducks and cows wander around the yard as if they were domesticated family animals. Gates are left open and the whole scene is one of the unfettered imagination of an artist painting a picture of bucolic bliss. For the Gibsons puzzle catalogue this new 500 piece jigsaw fits in perfectly with the Gibsons philosophy of showing a scene, that may or may not be factual, is not set in today's era of gigantic factory farms and has a definite sense of wellbeing and harmony with nature.
