Born in Castleford, in the heart of the industrial West Riding of Yorkshire, Kevin Walsh is proud to hail from the town which produced the world-famous sculpter Henry Moore. After studying illustration at the Wakefield College of Art, Kevin developed an early reputation, initially for his aircraft paintings. In recent years, he has become increasingly known for a much wider variety of subjects. Landscapes, city life and transport in bygone days now figure prominently among his works. He travels many miles to research his paintings and spends countless hours sketching, before committing the final composition to canvas. Accurate technical and historical detail, combined with an ability to capture the warmth and atmosphere of his subject, are the hallmarks of this remarkably accomplished artist. In the 2011 Gibsons jigsaw puzzle catalogue Kevin has turned his considerable painting skills north of the border to give us a small Scottish village with tourists preparing for their daily adventure. Whether it's hikers or those preparing their VW van for an excursion all travellers meet in the village square early in the day before they set out. Some holiday makers are eagerly driving out in their red sports car to sample some of Scotland's finest at the local distillery. Notice the old red telephone box which have mostly disappeared from the landscape entirely, both rural and urban alike. In the background rising majestically are the hills which offer the intrepid hiker the most fabulous views of the Highlands. Once again a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle for the nostalgia buffs who enjoy a slower pace and may recall such a tranquil and worry free setting from a bygone era.
